Fuel choices are beginning to reshape the vehicle market within the State as petrol E20 vehicles account for nearly half of all new registrations recorded so far this year. At the same time, electric mobility is steadily moving beyond the niche segment.
Official data available with The Goan reveals that Goa has recorded 55,156 vehicle registrations in 2026 so far, taking the total vehicles registered to 14,95,432. Of the new registrations this year, 27,898 are petrol E20 vehicles, the largest fuel category, followed by 6,762 pure electric vehicles and 3,340 diesel vehicles.
Petrol E20 vehicles alone account for just over half of the vehicles registered so far this year. When other petrol-based categories are added -- including petrol, petrol/CNG and petrol-hybrid vehicles -- the dominance of petrol-based vehicles becomes even more pronounced.
Likewise, the State has recorded 1,166 electric BOVs, 272 strong hybrid EVs and 1,490 petrol E20/hybrid vehicles.
Vehicle registrations continue to be dominated by two-wheelers, accounting for the bulk of new registrations.
Of the 55,156 vehicles, 36,404 are non-transport two-wheelers, making them by far the largest vehicle category. Another 851 are transport two-wheelers.
Light motor vehicles, which include a substantial share of private cars, account for 14,105 registrations.
Records further suggest that Goa’s electric mobility push is being driven largely by two-wheelers. The EV dashboard data shows that around 5,900 of the 7,928 electric vehicles (Pure EV and electric BOVs) sold so far this year are two-wheelers, while the remaining are four-wheelers.
Monthly vehicle registrations have fluctuated during 2026, wherein March recorded the highest number so far, at 9,177, followed by January with 8,167 and February with 7,348. Registrations stood at 7,080 in April, 6,346 in May, 6,832 in June and 6,715 in July. August has so far recorded 3,491 registrations.
The State has collected Rs 2,81,71,35,302 revenue from registrations and other fees this year till date.
