Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes on Thursday said efforts would be made to provide financial assistance to the family of lineman Sanjay Gaonkar, who was electrocuted while at work in Kankire-Guleli on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Thane to offer condolences to the Gaonkar family, Fernandes said an investigation into the incident was in progress and was confident that details would be clear within the next few days.
The final rites of the departed lineman were held in Thane amid a large number of people and several officials from the electricity department.
“This is a tragic incident and an inquiry is underway. Statements of employees are being recorded and the exact cause of the death will be clear within the next few days. Efforts will be made to provide assistance to the family as soon as possible,” said Fernandes, while speaking to reporters.
Relatives have demanded immediate financial assistance to the family and a government job for the widow, to enable her to support her mother-in-law and her 4-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, Fernandes, Executive Engineer Vallabh Samant, Assistant Engineer Deepak Gawas and junior engineers visited the site where Sanjay Gaonkar got electrocuted while at work to prune a tree in Kankire-Guleli on Wednesday.
