Emergency systems have been set up handle any problem on the highway in Chorla Ghat area between Goa and Karnataka during the monsoon season. In this regard, the Goa Department of National Highways is paying close attention and the passengers and citizens travelling on this highway have been urged to cooperate.
It is known that during the monsoon season, the road from Sankhali to Belgaum is frequently blocked by landslides. This causes a lot of inconvenience to passengers. Traffic was light at this time of year due to several such collapses. As a result, passengers had to face many kinds of problems.
This time round the Goa section of the National Highways had paid special attention and had taken important measures in this regard. As a result, from June to the end of the rains, in case of any landslide on the highway, immediate attention will be paid to it, official sources said. The proposal in this regard will be approved in the next two days. Officials said that due to this, a contractor will be appointed to take care of the Chorla section of the highway in the rainy season and special care will be taken to ensure that the passengers are not affected.
Especially in the ghat area, there are frequent landslides. This area receives heavy rainfall. This causes the pavements to collapse and the soil to spread on the road. Traffic on both sides get heavily congested. This is a constant problem for citizens and passengers.
Emphasis was placed on clearing the road immediately after any landslide last year. This did not cause much trouble. Official sources said that such an arrangement has also been made this year.
The road from Sankhali to Chorla Ghat is about 12 kms. Heavy rains lead to landslides and falling trees, causing traffic jams.
The traffic between Goa and Belgaum has been steadily increasing for the last few years. The people of Goa go to Belgaum for shopping in large numbers. It is the duty of the government to ensure that the rains do not create any problem on the road. Officials have clarified that arrangements have been made in this regard.
The Goa government had recently hot mixed and asphalted this road. Due to this, the road has become more convenient for commuters.
