Environment day observed in Ponda

PONDA: BJP distributed saplings of fruit-bearing trees to the locals, while People of Ponda (POP), an organization, planted different types of saplings at Sports Complex, on the occasion of World Environment Day.

BJP Ponda block president Vishwanath Dalvi along with the members of BJP yuwa morcha distributed saplings to the people, including BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar and Ponda Municipal Councillor Venkatesh Naik, while the POP with the help of citizens of Ponda planted saplings.

Election commissioner Narayan Navti, noted businessman Sandeep Nigalye, noted architect Bhasker Khandeparkar, Krishna Shetye, Councillors Geetali Talaulikar, Nidhi Mamlekar and Vincent Fernandes also planted saplings.

POP has decided to water the saplings on a daily basis till the rains. Though they could plant only 22 saplings on Sunday, the rest will be planted once the monsoon starts.

Cash-strapped Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) will have to shell out Rs 866.44 crore, almost double the figure of Rs 470 crore quoted liberally so far by authorities, for the third bridge across River Mandovi.
