Valpoi CHC conducts tyre collection drive

Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi has intensified focus on pre-monsoon vector-control measures at residences, public places and in plantations with co-operation of other departments and the local bodies.
Dr Sankesh Fadte, nodal officer for vector-borne diseases said CHC Valpoi had organised tyre collection drives in Sattari taluka, as lot of unused tyres are seen along the roadside and water accumulates in these providing breeding sites for mosquitoes.
He further said they also conducted advocacy programmes in most villages of Sattari, where they focused on source reduction, observing weekly dry day in offices, schools and homes on specific days, chlorination of drinking water sources and raising awareness of the importance of ensuring that all water storage containers are kept tightly lidded to avoid mosquito breeding.
Dr Fadte has appealed to the people to visit hospital in case of fever, chills and to test for malaria and dengue.
Sources from CHC informed that a special virus research centre of Manipal University has been set up at CHC Valpoi, which had investigated monkey fever. It will also investigate vector-borne disease, where the results of dengue and other disease will be reported within 1 day.
