In an interesting development, the Cavelossim Panchayat has sent a notice to ex-India cricketer Ashish Nehra to initiate necessary measures to restore the land area to its original condition within 30 days.
Two days after the illegal road issue kicked up a storm in the coastal village with villagers questioning inaction on the part of the authorities over the restoration of the land, Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has sent a notice to Nehra through his Power of Attorney, Himanshu Jain.
In the notice, the Cavelossim Sarpanch drew the attention of the POA that the Village Panchayat Cavelossim had issued a stop work notice dated 14/8/2024 directing to stop and submit all the legal documents of the ongoing work in sy.no.95/1-C.
The Sarpanch, however, said that so far the POA has not replied and complied with the office. “Therefore village Panchayat Cavelossim is directing you to necessary measures to restore the land area back to its original condition within 30 days from the date of receipt of this notice, failing which further action will be taken under sub-section 4 of the Section 66 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994 shall be taken,” the notice stated.
Copies of the notice have been sent to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
The villagers have been demanding action against the ex-India cricketer over the construction of the road in question in a No Development zone. While the Sarpanch and the Panchayat had insisted that the Panchayat had issued the stop work notice, the villagers questioned why the road has not been cleared from the site and the land restored to its original condition.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised about what action has been initiated by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) in respect of the road construction at Cavelosism in the NDZ zone.
For, the GCZMA officials had conducted an inspection of the site where the road has been constructed in violation of the CRZ norms.
