Ex-sarpanch blames Clafacio for attack on him

MARGAO
Former Paroda Sarpanch Gabriel Fernandes has alleged the hand of Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias behind the attack on him by a group of men and women at Paroda over the hill-cutting episode.

The Cuncolim MLA, however, rubbished the allegation. He suspected the women may have given vent to their anger as Gabriel was repeatedly calling them migrants.

On Tuesday, Gabriel along with a group of persons addressed the media demanding an FIR in the case.

He told the media that he had attached video footage to substantiate his claim.

Alleging the hand of the Cuncolim MLA, Gabriel said Clafacio was upset that he had repeatedly raised the issue of hill cutting by the MLA at Paroda.

Clafacio said Gabriel had been making allegations against me for the hill cutting for the last several months. “Why would I target him only now and that too by sending women?” he wondered.

The MLA said the former Sarpanch called the women migrants and had used drone to take photos of the place.

The attack on Gabriel had gone viral a day ago after a mob, especially women, were seen assaulting the former Sarpanch, who tried to make good his escape while he was being chased.
