As part of their faith formation programme, the Catechetical Cell of St Thomas Church at Aldona organised a unique event “Witness.Com” for Sunday schoolchildren on Sunday.
“Witness.Com” was based on the pastoral theme of the Pastoral Year 2020-21, “You are my witnesses”. The event was the crowning culmination of a three-month preparation where catechism children took part in various activities lined up for them within the confines of their homes.
“The array of activities included essay writing, poster/collage presentation, poetry recitation, singing presentation, saints’ character presentation, quiz presentation, monologue presentation and video presentation,” said Aldona Parish Priest Fr Tomas Lobo.
“The event provided children an opportunity to develop and showcase their talents for writing, conversing, singing, creativity, etc while deepening their knowledge of the different faith-heroes or saints who gave shining and exemplary witness to their Christian faith,” he added.
“The Sunday school children, who were supported by their parents and guided by their catechists, participated enthusiastically in the programme.”
The presentation of the “Witness.com” event began with a prayer service conducted by the Catechists.
Fr Tomas Lobo accorded a warm welcome to the three guests invited for the occasion, Fr Romeu Godinho (Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre, Old Goa), Sr Alexia Braz (Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King, ‘Asha Kiran’, Moira) and Selena Po (Headmistress of Chubby Cheeks High School, Pilerne).
The initial introduction and welcome was followed by a projection of various activities by catechism children on the screen via LCD projector.
All the guests praised the efforts of catechism children in presenting the lives of saints, making use of the modern means of communication. They also applauded the Catechists, guided by their animator Fr Tomas Lobo, for devising innovative ways of imparting faith catechesis to the little ones.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks by the Catechetical Co-ordinator Ronald Victoria and presentation of tokens of gratitude to the guests by the parish priest.
The entire presentation was uploaded on the Parish YouTube channel, thus spreading the Witness.Com event to a wider audience with a message to respond to the call of Jesus to become His joyful, zealous and radiant witnesses.
