In a development that confirmed that the 18-year old girl from Paddi was murdered in the shallow waters on Sunday, the post mortem examination report has concluded that the girl’s death is homicidal in nature due to “forced drowning”.
In this respect, the Cuncolim Police will register a case of murder in the death of 18-year old Anisha Velip, who was found dead in a rivulet near her house at Paddi on Sunday. The death was shrouded in mystery since 22-year old boy, Sarvesh Gaonkar, who was seen around the spot where Anisha was found dead, was found hanging dead on a tree near his house at Carvrem village.
Addressing the media, South Goa district Police Chief, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh said the findings of the post mortem examination reports indicated that the girl’s death was homicidal in nature. He said the Cuncolim police will register a case of murder and start investigations.
To a question, SP Pankaj said “prima facie, the boy, who later allegedly committed suicide, is a suspect in the case”.
“Given the nature of injuries on the neck as per the post mortem findings, this is called as forceful drowning in a shallow water”, he added.
To another question whether the boy’s death is due to suicide by hanging, SP Pankaj said facts and circumstances show that the boy was seen at the spot where the girl was found dead. “The girl’s mother and other witnesses, who knew the boy, had seen him near the place where the girl was found dead.
The boy ran away from the spot and when the police went in search of him at Cavrem, he was later found hanging on a tree”, he added.
To another question whether the police has concluded that boy’s death is due to suicide, the SP said the circumstances till now points to suicide, adding the police will be examining more witnesses and collect more facts.
When questioned over the probable motive behind the murder, the SP said the boy and girl knew each other for more than two years now, adding “the police is probing all angles, what led to the crime. We are examining the relatives of the deceased and their common friends. Once we examine the witnesses, we will be able to conclude the exact motive behind the incident”.
Meanwhile, the Cuncolim police on late Monday registered a case of murder under Section 302 of IPC. The offence was registered upon the complaint of Megashree Mahadev Velip of Khedem Padi Quepem that on September 27 the suspected accused Sarvesh Gaonkar a resident of Kavrem Pirla Quepem allegedly committed the murder of her daughter Anisha Velip by allegedly forcefully drowning her in stream/ rivulet.
Further investigations are in progress with PI Therron D’Costa carrying out the probe.
