the goan I network
MARGAO
While a Margao police team led by PI C L Patil visited the municipality in the morning to scan documents pertaining to the fake birth certificates, another team led by PI Girendra Naik effected the seizure of the hard disks in the evening.
PI Patil told The Goan that the hard disks have been attached. PI Patil and PSI Girendra Naik scanned documents in the births and deaths section and are believed to have obtained some incriminating details which could probably help in unravelling the racket.
Police officials in the know said that there could be arrests of some of the suspects in the case to help achieve a breakthrough.
“Investigation is on the right track. Statements have been recorded of the persons concerned and the investigation will now be taken to its logical conclusion,” PI
Patil added.
Margao police had on May 5 registered a case against Renuka Tehsildar and others for cheating, forgery and impersonation after taking cognizance of the complaint lodged by the Fernandes family
from Benaulim.
In this case, the elderly couple from Benaulim Agostinho and Maria Fernandes had rented the house to Renuka, a native of Karnataka, since the last three years.
Only recently, the duo found to their shock and surprise that Renuka and a youth had registered their marriage with Renuka giving her name as Rita Agostinho Fernandes and the youth Arogya as Arogya Fernandes.
