Farmers and residents of Nuvem have thanked Water Resources Department engineer Mayur Borkar for starting work on the Kamla Vholl nullah at the Nuvem–Raia–Fatorda border along the eastern bypass in Nuvem.
Congress leader from Nuvem, Everson Valles, said the proposal for the nullah was submitted to the WRD by Nuvem farmers during 2024–25.
He said the reconstruction of the 1.5-km-long nullah would help protect large stretches of paddy fields on the Nuvem side from monsoon flooding and provide major relief to farmers from Anuz and Kirbhat.
“With intermediate bandharas and sluice gates being provided, farmers will also have a good supply of water for horticulture,” he added.
