Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials raided an establishment preparing and supplying tiffin service at Britto waddo in Parra on Monday afternoon and destroyed 400 meals which were prepared in unhygienic conditions. The FDA team also sealed the premises.
According to sources, the FDA had received information that an establishment was operating in an unhygienic place in Parra and raided the premises.
The FDA team found that the meals were being prepared in an unhygienic location at an old rented house. These tiffin boxes were being prepared by people from Bihar.
During the investigation, it was found that these tiffin boxes were being supplied to security guards and other employees working in hotels and villas.
The FDA team found out that the kitchen did not have a licence from the Food and Drug Administration. The kitchen and the area where the dishes were stored were found dirty.
The FDA officials then called panchayat members and informed them about the establishment and its activities. Later, the officials disposed off 400 meals and sealed the premises.
The workers did not reveal the identity of the owner of establishment supplying the meals and it was unclear who had been operating the business.
The action was taken by a team of FDA officials comprising Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar, Lenin D’Sa and Nausheen Mulla.
