Launching a scathing attack on the BJP over land acquisition scams, failed promises, and public infighting, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai blamed former Fatorda BJP MLA Damu Naik, for orchestrating questionable land acquisitions that have left farmers without compensation or benefits.

The Goa Forward Party President along with his supporters gathered in Dovondem to support local farming efforts and take stock of agricultural challenges.

Addressing farmers and media at the site, Sardesai highlighted a key shift in crop strategy, pointing to the shift as an example of how local communities are innovating to survive, despite neglect and failed governance.

“During DamuNaik’s tenure as MLA and state BJP president, several fields in Fatorda were acquired by the government for so-called development projects like a truck terminus. Farmers and locals opposed it. Many refused to accept compensation. These land acquisitions were nothing short of real estate scams. The land losers received neither jobs nor any benefit from projects like the district hospital,” Sardesai alleged.

Contrasting his approach with that of his predecessors, Sardesai emphasised the support provided to farmers under his leadership. “We’ve distributed equipment, fertilisers, and seeds. We’re making sure farming survives in Fatorda.”

He also took a sharp jab at the ongoing internal conflict within the BJP. “We are growing rice in these fields, but BJP leaders are accusing each other of growing and selling ganja. Their infighting has gone public. Today they burned an effigy. Soon they may burn an effigy of their own state president,” he said.
