Officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) delivered on Health Minister Vishwajit Rane’s threat of shutting down restaurants operating without paper work, shutting down three food outlets in Morjim on Thursday.
A team of FDA officials swooped down on Morjim, popular among Russian tourists and shut down restaurants operating in three shacks, one of which was run by Russian nationals in partnership with a local.
An official who was part of the FDA raid told The Goan and all the three outlets did not have the licences and other paper work to run the food business.
The team also issued directions to the operators not to carry out any food selling activity until they obtain the requisite licences and approvals.
The three outlets sealed by the FDA are: Bora Bora, Fish and Project Soma.
Meanwhile a statement issued by Rane said the three outlets did not have “licences mandatory under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Act.”
Rane’s statement said, Soma Project Living Room Resort Morjim was directed not to carry out any food business until it obtains the licences.
Two other restaurants M/s Bora Bora Lounge Restaurant and Night Bar in Vithaldas-waddo Morjim run by a company with four Russian and one local directors and another one called ‘Fish’ in the same ward were also shut down, Rane said.
Rane also said that the licence of a
popular night club Marbela was revoked as the food served was unfit for human consumption.
A couple of days ago, Rane had warned of the crackdown on such restaurants operating from shacks on and along beaches of Goa to cater to the tourists visiting the State.
Many of these outlets were being operated by foreigners without licenses, Rane had said, adding that he has information that these establishments were nerve centres for the illegal narcotic trade.
