Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday lashed out at the principal opposition party stating that Goa Congress, Karnataka Congress and the All India Congress Committee should arrive at a unanimous stand on the issue of sharing Mhadei waters with
Karnataka.
Speaking at a press brief convened to counter the growing heap of criticism being hurled at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over his latest statement, BJP leader Premanand Mhambrey stated, "Congress in Goa, Karnataka and at the nation
al level are all talking in different terms. These three arms have three different stands on the issue. Let them have a unanimous stand before criticizing the Chief Minister."
Mhambrey further alleged that there is no coordination between the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party. "Congress president Shantaram Naik has lost his mind," he declared.
Former Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar sought to point out that the Goa Congress organization and its Karnataka counterpart have adopted seemingly contrary views on the matter of sharing of Mhadei waters between Goa and Karnataka.
He said, "Karnataka CM Siddaramaiyah should declare flat out that Karnataka doesn't want Mhadei water if Goa Congress stand is to be believed."
Aiming fire at Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Congress president Naik, Kandolkar said that the two Congressmen are "misleading people to secure publicity".
Attempting to clarify the stand of the ruling party on the subject, BJP spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik said, "Goa government is clearly against the diversion of water from the Mhadei basin through a canal or through any other means. We can't stop Karnataka people from using water flowing 35 km in their territory."
