MARGAO
All roads lead to Benaulim as fish lovers headed to the coastal village to lay their hands on fresh fish netted by the traditional fishermen.
With the new fishing season gaining momentum and the prevailing weather conditions conducive for fishing, fish lovers are again thronging the Maria hall road in Benaulim every evening.
With fresh fish in demand post-formalin scare, the Maria hall road now resembles a mini-fish market in the evening time as fish netted from the traditional ramponns finds its way to the place.
Locals say that fish lovers from Salcete villages prefer to head all the way to Benaulim for fresh and formalin-free fish after the bitter controversy in the wholesale fish market.
Since then, one has noticed the growing number of people from neighbouring villages, besides Margao, heading to the Benaulim coast to lay their hands on fresh fish.
While the hustle and bustle have all returned to wholesale fish market, Margao, after the lockdown period, Benaulim is slowly and steadily emerging as the destination for fresh fish along Salcete’s coastal belt.
