On the occasion of the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW), GOACAN in a memorandum to the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration has demanded an action plan to prevent food loss and reduce wastage in Goa.
"There is a need for constant awareness and an action plan which has the cooperation from the allied Departments and all stakeholders," says the memorandum by the NGO.
GOACAN has suggested that Legal Metrology, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Goa Waste Management Corporation departments can partner in preparing the points for an action plan to reduce food wastage, while the departments of agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary services and fisheries be partners in preparing the points for the action plan to prevent food loss.
GOACAN has suggested that the issues of food loss and waste reduction must be taken up with all the partners in Goa of the eat right initiative (ERI) being promoted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
"This would provide the synergy required to source information and technical expertise and highlight best practices in Goa. This approach may be considered for the year 2020-21 till the observation of the next IDAFLW in 2021," says the memorandum.
