If some areas of Divar island have been cut off from the village due to flooding of roads, the situation is no different in St Estevam island as the areas of Akhada and Tolto remained cut off from the rest of the island due to flooding of roads leading to these two areas.
Speaking to The Goan, St Estevam Deputy Sarpanch Chiara Gomes informed that the flooding situation worsened on Thursday with the water level rising and the roads leading to Akhada and Tolto completely submerged under water.
“There are around 15 families in Tolto and over 1,500 villagers in Akhada who are affected by the flooding,” Gomes added.
She further stated that students or villagers who want to go to school or work have to cross by boats.
“The local panch Surendra Volvoikar has provided the services of three boats which
are used by the marooned locals of Akhada and Tolto to cross to the mainland,” she further stated.
