Along with the inauguration of the Zuari bridge’s second four-lane section on December 22, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will also lay foundation stone for the twin towers to be constructed atop of the new bridge and for the elevated six-lane highway corridor at Porvorim.
Addressing a State-level function on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the 14km long approach road and the second section of the new Zuari bridge, estimated at the cost of Rs 2,500 crore will be thrown open for the public from December 22.
“On the very same day, the foundation stone would be laid for a Rs 270 crore revolving restaurant on the Zuari tower and for six-lane elevated corridor (flyover) on the NH-66 (formerly National Highway 17) between Guirim and Porvorim. The flyover will be constructed at the cost of Rs 641 cr,” he said.
Speaking further, Sawant expressed concern over failure to settle the Kul-Mundkarial cases even 62 years after Goa Liberation. He said that the State government has now fast-tracked the process to ensure that Kul-Mundkars get their ownership rights at the earliest.
The Chief Minister said that the government is working towards achieving zero carbon emission tag before 2050 and has already started creating infrastructure in that direction. He said that the priority of the government would be to ensure that electric charging stations are set up at maximum places.
Sawant said that the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Goa has increased by 33 per cent over the last 20 years and the per capita income in the State has risen by 30 per cent during the same period.
"The state has been witnessing growth post the liberation. The GSDP has increased by 33 per cent in the last 20 years, and the per capita income has gone up by 30 per cent in the same period," Sawant said.
The government has started the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, which is being taken to different parts of the State, he said, appealing to all sarpanchs and panchayat members to take advantage of the initiative.
