A gang of miscreants have been targetting several bikes parked in the compound of Rukmini Building, a residential colony in Baina, over a period of two days.
The aggrieved residents, who have approached the police station on two occasions, have now demanded strict police patrolling in the area, especially at night.
Residents have suspected the involvement of 2-3 persons after one resident had noticed a few people loitering suspiciously in the area.
According to a resident Ajit Prabhu, the gang operates at midnight or in the wee hours and breaks the under-seat storage locks of several bikes and decamps with some items, before throwing the remaining stuff near the scooter.
“We have complained twice. The police arrived and checked. We requested them to patrol the area. The gang first broke open our bikes on Friday night. We decided to keep watch and they did not appear on Saturday, but again struck on Sunday night. They have broken the under-seat locks of about 5 bikes in our compound. We are not sure if someone is playing a prank or if this is intentionally being done to steal petrol and other things placed in the under-seat storage space,” said Prabhu.
He stated that strict police patrolling in the past had stopped in the last few days and this had encouraged anti-social elements to target the area.
“We have demanded resumption of police patrolling in this area. Breaking open the bikes in the compound of the same building twice is dangerous and the police has to monitor the area,” added Prabhu.
