Narayan Gaonkar was on Tuesday elected unopposed as sarpanch of Sawarde in Sattari Taluka, filling the post which had fallen vacant for about a month following the resignation of Ashok Chari.
Six of the seven panchayat members were present at the meeting to elect the new sarpanch and Gaonkar was the only candidate to file his nomination, which was proposed by Ashok Chari and seconded by Barkelo Gawade.
Election Officer Prataprao Rane declared Gaonkar elected as unopposed.
Narayan Gaonkar, Ashok Chari, Barkelo Gawade, Panduranga Gaonkar, Nilesh Rane and Sukhada Desai were present, while Rupal Chari was absent at the meeting.
ZP members Premnath Hazare and Fati Gaonkar also visited the Sawarde Panchayat and congratulated Narayan Gaonkar.
