MARGAO
With illegal waste dumping taking place near the western bypass passing through the village, a delegation led by Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira met South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus seeking her intervention in waste management issues.
Pereira, along with social worker Warren Alemao and Colva panchayat member Pio Furtado, met the District Collector to discuss the growing garbage management concerns in the Benaulim constituency.
The Benaulim sarpanch highlighted that while the panchayat regularly manages dry waste, there remains a serious lack of infrastructure for wet waste management.
Saying that the panchayat collects dry waste from the village, the sarpanch said the delegation informed the Collector that the panchayat was ready to collect wet waste even thrice a week if any agency was willing to accept the waste for treatment.
Alemao said the delegation discussed several important concerns, including multiple instances of illegal garbage dumping at different blind spots, such as the area beneath the highway overpass, which the Collector had also acknowledged as a recurring problem.
