An increase in the movement of gaur (Indian bison) and leopards along the Charavane-Thane road in Sattari over the past few months has created an atmosphere of fear among local residents. Concern intensified after a recent leopard attack on Yashwant Gawas, which tragically resulted in his death.

Villagers have appealed to the Forest Department to take immediate steps to control the situation and ensure public safety. They have also appealed to Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane and local MLA Deviya Rane to intervene and address the issue as a priority.

According to locals, herds of gaur are frequently seen crossing the road, especially at night, forcing two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers to halt and increasing the risk of accidents. Residents noted that the animals often descend from forest areas in search of water, leading to regular road crossings.

In addition to gaur sightings, leopards have also been spotted on the same stretch, heightening fear among daily commuters who rely on this route for work and essential travel. Considering the growing danger, villagers have requested the Forest Department to safely drive the animals back into forest areas, install warning signboards, and intensify night patrols to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane visited the area to review the situation. He met the bereaved family of Yashwant Gawas and also interacted with residents, stating that prompt action by authorities is necessary.

He also appealed to citizens to remain cautious while travelling on this route.
