Fire engulfed a general store at Agalli-Fatorda on Monday evening, destroying property worth around Rs three lakh.
The incident occurred at around 3.15 pm when the shop was closed. Local residents, who spotted the fire after smoke was found billowing out from the shop, broke open the premises to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade was requisitioned for the fire fighting operation.
The general store owner Sajjan Virdikar said he had shut down the premises in the noon after switching off the power supply. He has
pegged the losses to around Rs three lakh.
Fire Officer Gill De Souza said the cause of the fire is being ascertained, adding that two fire tenders were requisitioned in the fire fighting
operation.
