Global Shapers Panjim Hub to observe wildlife week from October 2 to 8

On June 21, 2019, a 7-year-old girl started spending multiple weeks outside the Indian parliament House to draw the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pass a climate change law in India. This little girl from Manipur is Licypriya Kangujam.

After her protest, more than six MPs (both from ruling and opposition) brought up the issue of climate change for the first time in the history of India in Lok Sabha, on July 24, 2019.

From 17-year-old Greta Thunberg in Sweden, 14-year-old Leah Namugerwa in Uganda, to 22-year-old John Paul Jose in India, youth all over the world are rising against the climate crises we face today.

No longer are we satisfied with sitting on the sidelines waiting for our time to make a difference. This is our time. Armed with scientific facts and clear evidence around us, how can we afford to carry on with our conventional daily routines when the world as we know it is literally burning as we speak? Do you wish to be a part of this movement? How would you even begin to get involved in such a daunting mission?

Experts already in the field will narrate their experiences during the wildlife week from October 2 to October 8. They include Paresh Porob (ACF, Goa Forest Dept), Madhura Niphadkar (Secretary, Foundation for environment research & conversation), Puja Mitra (Founder, Terra Conscious), Charan Desai (Founder, study and awareness of wildlife and environment), Manoj Borkar (Associate Professor, Biodiversity Research cell, Carmel College for Women), Parag Rangnekar (Programme Manager, Mineral Foundation of Goa) and Omkar Darwadkar (President, Goa Bird Conservation Network).

What are the challenges they face when trying to protect the very earth on which we depend? What would they advise the youth of today who are eager to be a part of this high-priority undertaking?

The Global Shapers, Panjim Hub is asking these questions and more.
