Panaji MLA Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with the request to take up the repair of Panaji’s roads under the Smart City project instead of the Public Works Department.
Following a meeting with Chief Minister Sawant at his official residence at Altinho in Panaji, Monserrate said, “We are supposed to take up the repair of roads in the capital city under the Panaji Smart City project. Roads are totally in bad shape in Panaji. PWD had said that they will take up the road works. I brought this to the notice of the Chief Minister with the request that the roads in Panaji be taken up under the Smart City project.”
Explaining his demand for the road repair works to be taken up under the Smart City project, Babush pointed out that the PWD was short on funds and if these works were to be taken up under the Smart City project, they would receive 50 per cent of the funding from the Central government.
“As far as funding is concerned, PWD is short of funds. They will not be in a position to do this. Let us take the benefit of the Smart City project as the State government will have to shell out only 50 per cent,” he stated.
