Demand to convert it into kala mandir

The Tourism Department's hotel 'Goa Darbar' at Malpe-Pernem has been lying abandoned for the last 5 years, causing a loss of about Rs 13 lakh to the government.

According to sources, the renovation work of the hotel will be given to a private company on PPP (Public Private Project) model.

When contacted, GTDC chairman Nilesh Cabral said the contract has been given on PPP for the renovation works of Goa Darbar Hotel. “The tender process for this work is completed and the work will commence in July,” added Cabral.

Speaking to The Goan, Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) Vice-Chairperson Upendra Deshprabhu said he had taken the hotel on lease for five years, but when his contract was over, the GTDC did not renew his lease contract.

“The government is wasting money by deploying security guards at the abandoned hotel. Instead of wasting money on this hotel, the hotel should be given on lease to jobless youth,” added Deshprabhu.

When contacted, Virnoda Sarpanch Adv Sitaram Parab said the government should give the hotel to the panchayat so that they can built an air-conditioned hall with various facilities.

“For last many years, citizens from Pernem have been demanding a Kala Mandir. The government can convert this building into a kala mandir, as the national highway, Pernem Railway station and upcoming IT Park at Tuem and Mopa airport are nearby to it,” said Parab.

“I have also demanded with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar to restart the hotel,” he said.

The authorities have kept jeeps and jet-skis of the lifeguards in the hotel premises.
