Goa gets over Rs 258 crore for tourism projects under central scheme

PANAJI: The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned 117 tourism projects worth Rs 5,756.62 crore across the country over the last two years to boost tourism through infrastructure development, digital promotion and improved visitor amenities with Goa getting over Rs 258 crore for key initiatives


According to the Ministry, the projects have been approved under various central schemes aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure and enhancing visitor experiences across States and Union Territories.


For Goa, under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme, the Ministry sanctioned Rs 24.07 crore for the Porvorim Creek Experience and Rs 19.88 crore for the Colva Beach Experience on August 20, 2024.


Under the Challenge-Based Destination Development Scheme, Rs 9.81 crore was sanctioned on March 17, 2025, for the Mayem Village (Ecotourism and Amrit Dharohar Sites), Beautification and Development of Harvalem Waterfall project.


Under the PRASHAD Scheme, the Ministry approved Rs 16.46 crore for the development of the Bom Jesus Basilica.


Goa has also received funding under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme. The Ministry sanctioned Rs 97.46 crore for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Ponda and Rs 90.74 crore for the Townsquare project in Porvorim.
