Goa police takes note of lax security as Vasco railway station

The Goan had highlighted critical lapses at entry points

Acting on a news report that was highlighted in The Goan on the lax security at Vasco Railway station, Mormugao DySP Sucheeta Desai on Thursday visited the station to take stock of the situation and voiced her concern over many security lapses at the station.

Speaking to The Goan, DySP Desai said she had personally visited the railway station and found many lapses in security measures.

“The entrance to the railway station from the canteen is very porous, as anyone can enter the station. There is a need for a second metal detector door frame, as well as positioning of security officials to avoid unwanted elements from entering the station,” pointed out Desai.

“I also convened a meeting with officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and asked them to increase their number of officials. They have agreed to add 15 more RPF personnel to the present strength,” added Desai.

Desai said she has also taken note of the defunct CCTV cameras and is in the process of writing a letter to the authorities concerned to put the necessary infrastructure in order.

As far as manning the railway police station is concerned, Desai said she has requested the RPF to coordinate their duties with the Railway Police to intensify patrolling.

“There was some lacuna in the duties of the Railway Police while manning the station, and I have directed the Railway Police station officer to maintain round-the-clock patrolling and manning,” said Desai.

Desai said she will also conduct a surprise visit to the railway station to avoid any lapses on security measures.
