PANAJI
Goa has been witnessing chilly mornings and nights over the past few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Panaji, attributing the dip in temperatures to easterly winds prevailing in the lower levels of the atmosphere.
On Thursday, the State recorded its coldest morning of the season. The IMD said the minimum temperature dropped to 17.5°C at the Panaji observatory, the lowest recorded so far this year. Mormugao logged a minimum of 18.6°C.
As per the observational data recorded on December 13, Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2°C, marginally 0.2°C above normal, while the minimum settled at 18.5°C, 2.6°C below normal. At Mormugao, the maximum temperature stood at 33.4°C, 0.6°C above normal, and the minimum at 18.8°C, a sharp 3.5°C below normal.
IMD Goa has forecast mainly clear skies over the next 24 to 48 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 34°C and 19°C respectively.
For the coming week, the department has forecast dry weather across both North and South Goa; and that shallow to moderate haze or mist is likely at isolated places during early morning hours.
