Goa continues to face a rainfall deficit this monsoon season despite heavy showers lashing parts of the State.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa has received 771.8 mm of rainfall since June 1 against the normal of 1,063.4 mm, leaving the State with a rainfall deficit of 27.4%.
The IMD said the southwest monsoon remained normal over Goa, with light to moderate rainfall occurring at most places and heavy rainfall reported at isolated locations.
Valpoi recorded heavy rainfall of 66.4 mm during the last 24 hours. Moderate rainfall was reported from Sankhali (44.6 mm), Dharbandora (38.3 mm), Sanguem (33.3 mm), Ponda (30.8 mm), Quepem (28 mm), Mapusa (22.2 mm) and Margao (16.8 mm). Light rainfall was recorded at Panaji (4.2 mm), Dabolim (14.8 mm), Ela (Old Goa) (5.8 mm), Mormugao (10.6 mm), Pernem (12.6 mm) and Canacona (4.2 mm).
The weather office has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across North Goa and South Goa districts till July 10. Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph is likely at a few places during the period.
Temperatures stayed above normal, with Panaji at 30.2°C/27°C and Mormugao at 30.6°C/25.2°C, both recording above-normal minimum temperatures.
