MARGAO: The Goa Gold Dealers Association on Wednesday resolved to go on an indefinite strike in support of their demands for the roll back in the excise duty levied by the Finance Minister in his budget.
The Goa gold dealers had initially called for a three-day strike, which was later extended to three more days since there was no response from the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to the memorandums submitted by various gold dealers associations from Mumbai and other parts of the country.
The gold dealers told The Goan that they will go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, adding that they will now review the situation only on March 17. “Our problem is that the Central government has levied a 1% excise on the gold dealers in this year’s budget. We have demanded a roll back in the excise duty," the dealers said.
