The government has sanctioned funds to secure around 35 dangerous abandoned quarries and mining pits in Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Rs 75 lakh has been approved, with an additional Rs 2 crore to be sanctioned under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) for barricading and trenching entry points. This announcement was made in response to concerns raised about safety at these quarries
This decision comes after several deaths and incidents were reported at various quarries and pits across Goa. There have been demands from both the opposition and local residents for fencing and proper police patrolling at these sites to prevent further accidents.
The allocation of these funds and proper measures will help to maintain safety concerns and prevent further tragedies at these hazardous locations, added CM Sawant
