The Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Legislative department has directed the Goa government to initiate necessary action in a matter related to one Lavu Toraskar from Vandi-Candolim, who had sought Ministry’s intervention to stop the demolition of his dwelling unit, located within the CRZ area.
Toraskar had written to the President of India seeking the intervention in protecting his dwelling unit, which was issued a demolition order by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA). The President’s Office forwarded the letter to the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Legislative department for further action.
According to Toraskar the structure existed prior to 1991 but has no records to prove it. His appeal in Supreme Court and NGT against the order was dismissed while directing the authorities to go ahead with demolition.
The Deputy Legislative Counsel Arti Chopra in a communication to the State government and Toraskar has said that “the subject matter falls under the administrative ambit of the Ministry of Home Affair and the Goa government. Hence all policy decisions in this regard would be taken by the concerned administrative Ministry or Department”.
“Therefore, the email/ complaint are forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Goa government for taking necessary action on the matter at their end,” Chopra said.
