Asserting that potholes, dengue, formalin, and coal have been tormenting the common man in Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday launched an attack on the government accusing it of being totally insensitive to the sufferings of the common man.
Addressing the media, AAP convenor Elvis Gomes said that the Chief Minister was kept busy sorting out distribution of corporations, boards and PDAs among the imported MLAs that did not in any way help the people except the renegade MLAs themselves.
He said that ‘a self-service counter’ was opened by the CM for satisfying the ‘enormous appetite’ of the MLAs that have been imported from the Congress so that they could help themselves to the full.
“Look at the pattern that defies logic. People that do not know what a linear line is are told to do planning for the future of Goa,” said Gomes stating that the Party is consulting legal experts about throwing a legal challenge to the appointments made to honour political commitments rather than serving public interest.
Gomes said that potholes, dengue, coal and formalin have become a formidable combination that were striking at will causing misery to the lives of the common man.
Drawing a parallel with the AAP Government in Delhi, he said that all the MLAs in the national capital personally got on the roads with PWD engineers in their respective constituencies to identify and fill up potholes.
He also said that a simple appeal by the Chief Minister of Delhi to spare 10 minutes at 10 o’clock for 10 consecutive Sundays to scout for possible mosquito breeding sites around individual houses had brought down cases of dengue from 15,000 odd in the past few years to a mere 200 this year.
“The AAP government in Delhi is proactively combating the problems of the people whereas people here enrich themselves even on the misery of the people. Huge money was now being additionally drawn in the name of roads maintenance without enforcing the guarantees by contractors to fill potholes,” he said, adding, “Formalin continues to be used to preserve fish. Common man’s heath does not matter.”
He also suggested that going by the style of ‘mis governance’ of the government, a potholes corporation could be formed not to fill potholes but to accommodate another imported MLA in future.
Edwin Mascarenhas, AAP leader from Vasco said that 15,000 plus cases of respiratory ailments have been officially recorded in Mormugao due to coal pollution.
AAP leader Ramiro Mascarenhas lamented that authorities were not inclined to take any action in the matter of felling of nearly 200 trees in Quepem by the local municipal council without any authorisation and vowed to take up the matter before the High Court.
