Will the planned visit of Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate to the Comunidade building bring about a turnaround in the condition of the five-decade old South Goa Administrator of Comunidade building and also pave way for the payment of salaries of the last 11 months?
Though the Revenue
Minister’s visit is yet to be confirmed, sources said her Officer on Special Duty (OSD) N S Navti may pay a visit to the Comunidade building along with the district authorities to take stock of the situation before Jennifer makes her presence felt later this week.
In fact, Comunidade employees have been anxiously awaiting the visit of the Revenue Minister to resolve their long pending issue of salary payments.
The 25-odd Comunidade employees have not received their salaries of the last 11 months with the employees hoping against hope that they would at least receive before the ensuing Diwali festival.
“This is the 12th month running since we have not received our salaries. The employees had all pinned their hopes on the Revenue Minister during her first visit to the district Collectorate to clear our salary dues before Ganesh Chathurti. Hope, the Revenue Minister will direct the authorities to make the necessary arrangement for the disbursement of our salaries at least on the eve of Diwali,” remarked an employee.
The Revenue Minister’s visit has been also awaited for a different reason.
The over five-decade year old Comunidade building has been craving for attention as the government is yet to take a call and act on the structural stability test report conducted by the Goa College of Engineering.
The report, which states that the building is still strong and can be renovated with repair and renovation has not been acted upon by the government, though the Comunidade office says the report has already been submitted to the district Collector, South around three months ago.
The South Goa Administrator of Comunidade building is presently functioning from the Old Collectorate building due to rain water seepage and other issues.
