PANAJI
The Goa government has intensified its push to expand corporate participation in the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), with the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) leading an orientation workshop to bring in more companies into the internship network for students and young professionals across the State.
The workshop, held in Panaji in collaboration with the Registrar of Companies, Goa, and the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), focused on accelerating industry onboarding under the centrally sponsored scheme and strengthening structured industry exposure for graduates.
A press statement issued on Friday stated that the initiative comes as the State seeks to scale up participation under PMIS, which links academic learning with workplace training through paid internships.
“The PMIS, launched under the Union Budget 2024-25, provides structured paid internships for bridging the gap between education and industry requirements. Interns receive a monthly stipend of Rs 9,000, including Rs 8,100 from the Centre and Rs 900 from participating companies, along with a one-time Rs 6,000 incidental grant through Direct Benefit Transfer,” it said.
The DHE, designated as the State Nodal Department for PMIS, organised the orientation following the receipt of Standard Operating Procedures from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for onboarding companies onto the portal.
“The initiative marked a key step in improving youth employability and urged eligible companies to register on the PMIS portal,” DHE Director Bhushan Savaikar said.
Goa-IDC Managing Director and Secretary (Science & Technology), Pravimal Abhishek, said the scheme provides a structured mechanism to bridge education and industry and called for greater participation from companies across Goa’s industrial ecosystem.
During the day-long workshop, Deputy Director, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Rujuta Bankar, provided a detailed walkthrough of the onboarding process during the session.
