CANACONA
The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has warned the State government of consequences if water supply problems in Cannacona taluka are not resolved by December 19.
Addressing a news conference in Canacona, GFP Secretary Prashant Naik said water supply have been erratic all parts of Canacona taluka.
“Be it in municipal areas, Agonda, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, Poinguinim, Loliem-Polem or Shristhal, households have taps but no water supply in those taps.”
“During Diwali, BJP MLAs and others had distributed Poha and jaggery, but people had no water to even mix or cook this Poha. They should have given 1-2 water bottles along with these items, such is the situation of the water crisis in Canacona,” said Naik.
He accused the State government of merely claiming that water would reach to every households, but doing nothing to resolve the water supply woes in Canacona taluka.
“We strictly warn this government that if the water issue is not resolved before Liberation Day, the government should be prepared to face the consequences,” said Naik.
Naik also highlighted the pending works of Bhandaras all over the taluka.
“On the one hand, Dy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar persuades farmers to promote cultivation, but if the government cannot provide the required infrastructure, how does one expect farmers to succeed without bhandaras?”
“Bhandaras are constructed to help store water for the Rabi crops. It's now almost two months that monsoon had withdrawn, but there has been no work on Bhandaras in Canacona,” said Naik.
Naik also took a dig at Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, ridiculing him for the lack of development.
“Our Canacona MLA is on record to say that he has joined BJP for development, but where is the development? If people in Canacona cannot have proper water supply in December itself, is this the development?”
“Instead of celebrating Goa’s liberation in a grand manner, the State government should liberate people from their water woes they have been suffering since the last 60 years,” Naik added.
