GSIDC cornered two-thirds of State-backed loans

PANAJI
The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) which executes on a turn-key basis most of the government’s greenfield building and infrastructure projects has cornered more that two-thirds of the total loans availed against State guarantees.

According to the statement laid by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on the table of the House on Tuesday, GSIDC has borrowed Rs 393 crore against guarantees provided by the State whereas the grand total of borrowings against State guarantees is Rs 528.24 crore.

However, repayment of these loans has stuck to schedules and only Rs 197-odd crore of the 393 it had borrowed have been repaid by the GSIDC and loan outstandings are Rs 197-odd crore as of March 31. All the borrowings are from nationalised banks -- Bank of India, Maharashtra Bank and Union Bank.

Borrowings by government departments, State-owned Corporations and autonomous bodies against State guarantees are loans availed of outside the debt accounted for in the State’s Financial Statements (Budgets).
