MARGAO
Asserting that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) had built a state-of-the-art wholesale fish market in Margao for the Fisheries Department, GSIDC Chairman and MLA Michael Lobo said on Sunday that he had no idea why the planning body had still not commissioned and inaugurated the market.
Saying there were several complications plaguing the wholesale fish market, he said the GSIDC was willing to execute additional works at the market, provided the SGPDA gave the Corporation a list of the required works.
Lobo further said the SGPDA, Margao Municipal Council and the contractor to be appointed by the planning body should work in unison to ensure the smooth functioning of the market.
Fielding questions from the media about the wholesale fish market on the sidelines of the Gulab Award programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Sunday evening, the GSIDC Chairman said the SGPDA was supposed to provide a list of additional works to be executed at the Margao wholesale fish market. “If the media is saying they have not noticed any work at the wholesale fish market, it means that the PDA has not submitted the list of works. Because, unlike other departments, the GSIDC does not delay in implementing and executing works proposed by departments,” he said.
Saying that the role of the SGPDA was to plan for the city, Lobo favoured agencies such as the Margao Municipal Council keeping a watch on the market. “From our side, we are ready to take up the additional work. I had given a word to the SGPDA that the GSIDC would take up the additional work. Once we get the list, our engineers will start the work. If the work has not started, that means the list of works has still not come,” he added.
When the media drew his attention to the commencement of the fishing season, Lobo said, “The GSIDC has already handed over the market to the department. I do not know why the market has not yet been inaugurated. The SGPDA will know it better.”
