GTDC takes up new job; An agency for DoP?

The GTDC has used its office to tender works of the department of panchayats as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under the central government scheme, Corporation Chairman Nilesh Cabral said.

He said that even though the works were being tendered by the GTDC it wasn’t the GTDC fund that was being used to build infrastructure like panchayat ghars, etc.
In November, the GTDC had issued five tenders to build panchayat infrastructure like that of panchayat ghar in Anjuna-Caisua and Sangolda, a football ground and jogging track in Pilerne Marra panchayat, among other works raising eyebrows of GTDC’s role in panchayat affairs.
“Our SPV cell is being utilized only to the tune of 5% since very few GTDC projects are being built. A request had come from DoPs to ask the GTDC to be the agency for the works, it was placed before the GTDC Board and a decision was taken,” Cabral said.
“Each panchayat is eligible to the tune of `1.5 crore for infrastructure development under the scheme. It is a panchayat scheme and the money being spent is not that of the GTDC. Once the money is cleared under the scheme, it will be deposited in our account,” he said.
Works to the tune of around ₹12 crore have been taken up in the panchayat areas.
