MARGAO: The much-hyped 'Mahagatbandhan' in the making may have just died a premature death with Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai going all guns blazing at the opposition MLAs who he alleges are hobnobbing with the BJP-govt for "their vested interests".

Mincing no words, he said he would not be comfortable associating himself with people who he alleged were cracking deals with the govt.

“I am greatly disappointed with the opposition unity during the session. Leaving apart Digmabar Kamat and Reginaldo Lourenco, the remaining opposition MLAs acted as if they were feeling suffocated. They did not even forcefully take up the issue of reservation of jobs for Goan youth which concerned the future of Goemkars,” Vijai said at a media briefing in the presence of Goa Forward Party president Prabhakar Timble.

He said that what was supposed to be a coordinated effort from the opposition side turned out to be a damp squib. “We had put up certain clubbed questions. Though these questions came up, they

were not taken up. This only goes to show that they had the same interest. I feel there’s some deal being cracked with the BJP," he said.

Saying that he was not comfortable with the people getting into a 'pact' with the BJP, Vijai made it clear that he was not hungry for power, and that he was ready to sit in the opposition again. “The time has come for independents and likeminded individuals within and outside the House to get together and conduct a review of everything and shortlist the things we should take up against the

government,” he said.
