The Canacona Fire Services received a call at about 6.45 am to report a roadside house on fire at Voile-Agond in Agonda village.
“By the time a fire brigade reached the site, several house items were destroyed in the fire, but we succeeded in averting complete destruction of the house by bringing the fire under control. The house situated on Canacona-Agonda road belongs to one Leopas Fernandes,” informed a fire services personnel.
Fire sources estimated the loss at Rs 1 lakh, while saving property worth over Rs 4 lakh in the house, which was being occupied by a woman and her son.
Fire services however, could not throw much light on the cause of fire and Canacona police confirmed that no case has been registered with them.
No information was available on whether the occupants of the house were inside the premises when the fire broke out in the dwelling.
