The Goa government will outsource four Intensive Care Units (ICUs) to the private sector at its hospitals in Bicholim, Valpoi, Ponda and Mapusa. Also, a Medicine ICU (MICU) is being proposed to be set up at the GMC Hospital, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced at a news conference on Friday.

“Since we do not have the specialised resource personnel we have to outsource these four ICUs”, Rane said, adding that GMC will get Rs 26 crore worth of machinery and all types of medicines will be made available at all public health centres

by July 19.

Selection list of 20 doctors has been out through GPSC while 36 doctors were recruited in past 3 months,

Rane said.

At Surla in Sattari taluka, a sub-health centre will be opened while the Kumthal sub-health centre and Pachwada, Usgao Regional Medical centre will be upgraded. Sanguem and Sattari talukas will also get a new state-of-the-art regional medical centre, he said.

Rane also said that the functioning of the health centre at Candolim will be made paperless.

Meanwhile, Rane said, the State-owned Goa Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (GAPL) has been blacklisted from the Deendayal Swasthya Seva Yojna (DDSY) health scheme as the company is delaying dispatch of medicines.

Providing all blood test under one roof and six more ventilators at GMC, besides an MOU for testing kits at sub-health centres with 28 parameters of blood testing facility are some of the other initiatives of his health ministry that Rane highlighted. Rane also said that plans are afoot to send teams of doctors to either Spain or France for training in organ transplant procedures. Besides the process of empaneling more cancer treatment hospitals in addition to the Tata Memorial Hospital under the Deen Dayal Swasth Yogana (DDSY) scheme is currently in progress, he said.
