If PWD has no funds, TCP, NGPDA can chip in: Vijai

Says politics should not come in the way of development

If PWD has no funds, TCP, NGPDA can chip in: Vijai

MAPUSA

Hinting that politics should not come in the way of development, especially in constituencies represented by Goa Forward, TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai on Saturday said that if PWD was running short of resources then TCP and NGPDA could jointly contribute to complete pending works.

“If PWD has no funds then we (Vijai and Lobo) can arrange funds from TCP and PDA and complete all the pending works,” Sardessai said.

The TCP minister was referring to Lobo’s disclosure that the work along the Verla-Canca footpath was already estimated but someone had blocked the file and it was pending with the PWD executive engineer.

Sardessai was speaking at a function to inaugurate a garbage truck as part of

Swachh Bharat Mission at Verla-Canca.

Speaking further, he said cleanliness and politics went hand in hand and therefore for a village to remain clean politics should be clean.

“When there is no cleanliness, there is no progress. To bring about cleanliness in the village and the State our politics should be clean,” he said.

Touching on the Mhadei issue, the TCP minister said the matter was very serious and the WRD minister was constantly monitoring the issue.

“Stopping the water of Mhadei is akin to our merger into Karnataka. Earlier, someone wanted to merge Goa into Maharashtra,” said Sardessai, without taking names. He further said it was because of someone that Goan identity has been retained separately.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Goa can attain the target of cleanliness only with the active involvement of public and door-to-door collection.

“As long as we don’t involve people and don’t collect door-to-door garbage, our plan will never succeed,” Parrikar said.

He also said segregation of garbage was also a very crucial aspect of garbage collection and the trucks that collect waste should take wet and dry garbage separately.

The chief minister exhorted the panchayats to help the government in making Goa open defecation free by October 2.

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo took the initiative to sponsor a garbage truck to Verla-Canca panchayat through the CSR activity.

WRD Minister Vinod Paliencar, Verla-Canca Sarpanch Milton Marques and others also spoke at the function.
