Colvale police conducted a raid on illegal sand mining at Chapora on Sunday.
According to SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, the Colvale Police staff while patrolling, received information stating that illegal sand extraction and process of loading sand in the Tipper Truck from Canoe at the bank of Chapora river at Chicklim, Camurlim was underway.
Accordingly, Assistant Geologist of Mines Department Shyam Sawant along with Pravin Gawas, Flying Squad incharge, Mamtaldar of Bardez, Captain of Ports staff, and Siolim Coastal staff conducted a raid.
During the raid, one blue colour truck bearing registration no GA 01 Z 3599 was seen parked half loaded with river sand and one blue colour canoe loaded with 8 cubic metres of illegally extracted freshly river sand was attached under the panchanama.
The river sand loaded in a canoe was disposed of in the Chapora river as per the Direction of the High Court of Bombay at Goa with the help of hired labours and tipper truck was brought to Colvale Police Station for further action.
The team consisting of PSI of Colvale Sushant H Sangodkar, PSI of Coastal PS Satyawan Naik, ASI of Robot staff Sunil Padwal, Ajay Gawade, Nilesh Mandrekar HC Siolim Coastal, PS under the supervision of Jivba Dalvi, Sub Divisional Police Officer of Mapusa Sub Division and Somnath Mahajik, Police Inspector of Colvale conducted the raid.
