Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that Goa was growing but decried the obstructionist behaviour of some Goans.

“There’s obstruction to Defence Expo. There’s obstruction to Mandovi Bridge. There’s obstruction to garbage treatment plant too, which is very much the need of the hour. We need to curb this obstructionist tendency among a section of the people in Goa,” Parrikar said while addressing a gathering while inaugurating the Mall De Goa at Porvorim on Saturday evening.

He said the Defence ministry did not require land for good but only for four days. Goa was being misled by a section of the people and this has to stop somewhere, he added.

Praising the chairman and the directors of the Jai Bhuvan Group that has brought the Mall De Goa in Porvorim, the defence minister said that finally a top-end mall has entered in Goa.

“Parking will be a key ingredient for the success of the mall. I am happy the promoters have taken care of parking very well,” he said, mentioning the systematic arrangement made to facilitate parking of 350 cars and 320 two-wheelers by the promoters.

He said Goa was moving ahead and expressed the desire of having a mall of this scale in South Goa.

Earlier, Chairman of Jai Bhuvan Group, Sadanand Shet took the gathering down the memory lane on his humble life and hard childhood.

“I am a small man but always had high aspiration. It was my dream to build this mall and today that dream has come true,” Shet said.

Comparing his childhood life to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said: “Like our prime minister who sold tea, I sold peanuts outside the theatres in Bombay during my childhood,” the chairman said describing his poor background.

He said he lived his life on three Hs: Hard work, Honesty and Humility.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Panaji MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte was present for the inaugural.

The directors of the Jai Bhuvan Group and promoters of the mall Bhuvanish Shet and Rajesh Shet were also present.
