INDIA bloc, Kamat members come face-to-face at Moti Dongor

MARGAO
INDIA bloc campaign atop migrant-inhabited Moti Dongor ran into rough weather after supporters of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and the leaders of the INDIA bloc came face-to-face on Sunday evening.

The incident took place at Moti Dongor near the polling booth just minutes before curtains could come down on the campaign for the May 7 election when INDIA bloc group led by Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, Congress leader Savio Coutinho, Kadar Shah and others descended at the migrant basty to drum up support for Captain Viriato.

After the group covered a number of houses atop the hillock, a group of known Kamat’s supporters led by Sheikh Jalil and others came to confront Savio Coutinho on the plea he had made complaints against the people of Moti Dongor in respect of allotting house numbers of the illegal structures.

They questioned Coutinho for coming to Moti Dongor now seeking votes for the Congress candidate when he had been working against the residents of Moti Dongor. Sardesai, however, intervened and explained that Coutinho had never complained against the people and the so-called complaint is just an application seeking information under the RTI.

As the group was heading out, the two sides again came face-to-face over a remark made by Kadar Shah, before the paramilitary personnel told the two sides to disperse.

Later addressing the media, Sardesai said the incident at Moti Dongor only goes to show that Digambar Kamat is rattled by the response to INDIA bloc in Margao.

Saying that Kamat had sent his men to confront the INDIA bloc members at Moti Dongor to create a fear psychosis, Sardesai demanded that the election authorities declare the Moti Dongor polling as sensitive with the deployment of additional forces to instill confidence amongst the voters of the area.
