Chetna Entertainment and BLive Production and Music will be making a trilingual (Konkani, Hindi and Russian) Indo-Russian film based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story.

The film will have actors from Russia and Goa. “We are the first to work on such a concept of making a film in three languages with subtitles in English and this is going to be a Bollywood style, big-budget movie,” claimed Avadh Sharma of Chetna Entertainment “ a Jaipur-based production house.

The team was in Panaji to announce the launch and interact with the media.

Announcing the launch of this film that’s going to be shot in Goa, Jaipur and Russia, Sharma hoped that the film will revive the historical bonds of friendship that always existed between India and Russia.

Legendary Indian actor Raj Kapoor was popular in Russia and today Goa is popular in Russia from the tourism point of view and our film will be showing the rich culture of Goa, wiping out its image as a notorious place for drugs, states Sharma.

“The popular love story of Romeo and Juliet will be adapted as the storyline with Goan Romeo and Indo-Russian Juliet as actors. The film showcases conflict between two families, two cultures and two types of music but at the end, all come together. It will be an aesthetically pleasing and content-driven masterpiece,” says Sharma who will be financing the project.

Written by Alexander Sukhochev, a Russian living in Goa for the past six years and the writer of novel ‘The Goa Syndrome’ is well-versed with the Goan culture and will do justice to the script, hopes the director of the film Aziz Zee.

“The film will be in three languages, which itself is revolutionary. We want to bring the world together with cinema, which is a powerful medium to give a message,” maintains Aziz who is in Goa for the past eight years, has done music videos and film sequences and is well-versed with the local culture.

“I met a many Russians in Goa and am excited to work on this film,” says Aziz.

The music is composed by Shiddhart Kashyap and DJ Sheizwood. The music of this film will be different, nothing ever heard before. The fusion and blend of Konkani, Russian and Hindi is something never heard before and it’s a challenge which the duo will be meeting along with the singers from Bollywood.

Smita Gondkar and Amit Mehra will be playing important roles in the film. Smita who has acted in many Marathi movies will be acting in her first Konkani film based on a realistic story. Mehra who has played Shiva in the television serial Mahabali Hanuman and was Mr Universe for 2018-19 will be playing a negative role in this film.

Having travelled across the globe after winning the title, Mehra got a chance to visit Russia too. “This project will be close to my heart as I love Goa and feel that this is the best place on earth. The film is more like a local Konkani film, with only four actors from Russia and the rest from Goa,” states Mehra.

Konkani writer Jose Lorenco has helped with the Konkani dialogues. After selecting suitable actors for the characters, the shooting will begin and the film will be released before IFFI 2020.
