IPL betting racket busted at villa in Candolim, 9 held

Police busted an IPL cricket online betting racket after raiding a villa in Candolim, and nine persons hailing from Ahmedabad-Gujarat have been arrested in this connection.  

According to police sources, the suspects – Tilokkumar M Chethani (41), Rockey Talreja (35), Pavankumar Mangalani (45), Kishan Lalwani (24), Bharat Gopalani (38), Dinesh Bhatiya (47), Nagesh Gelwani (35), Rinkumumar Chauthani (30) and Manish Ramchandani (37) – had taken the villa on rent and had allegedly established an online betting den there.  

Police received information that an illegal online betting was taking place at a villa at Candolim and North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal and a police team raided the place on Sunday night while betting was in progress during an Indian Premiere League cricket match.  

The accused tried to flee but the police nabbed all nine persons, and handed them over to the Calangute police.  

Police also seized a laptop, 17 mobiles and other material worth Rs 4 lakh from the accused. The accused were taken into custody under the Goa Public Betting Control Act, Section 420 IPC and Information Technology Act.

Further investigations are in progress.
